You’re invited to this upcoming Ubiquity Ventures public event to celebrate last month’s landing of the Mars Perseverance rover. We will explore how its mission to find signs of ancient life on Mars is accelerated by “software beyond the screen” and machine learning. This event features Jill Tarter of the SETI Institute and Hannah Kerner of the Ubiquity Extended Team.

In June 2014, while at Bessemer, I had the privilege of partnering with Jon Gelsey, Eugenio Pace, and Matias Woloski by leading the first $2 million seed round of financing in Auth0. This afternoon, the Auth0 announced its sale to Okta for $6.5 billion. It’s incredible that this team of identity and authentication nerds has been so effective at realizing their vision and achieving today’s amazing milestone. Under the leadership of CEO Eugenio, CTO Matias, and former CEO Jon, Auth0 has transformed from a 5-person startup in 2014 to the world’s leading platform for identity and authentication today.
As Auth0’s…
I woke up this morning to the very exciting news that both Rocket Lab and Spire have just announced that they will become public companies via a SPAC process ( Rocket Lab news, Spire news). This brings back many memories from my 6 years at Bessemer Venture Partners where I co-led these investments (Rocket Lab in 2014, Spire in 2015). Here I’d like to reflect on what drove these early investments, what I learned from these great entrepreneurs, and how this inspired me to eventually launch Ubiquity Ventures 3 years later.
One item to note upfront: Rocket Lab and Spire…

In our work and in our personal lives, I don’t believe a person can master anything until they’ve done it 1,000 times.
Using piano as an example, the first few times playing a new piece of music are stressful! I read through the sheet music, figure out how the notes from on the page map to the black and white keys of the piano, and then clumsily start playing a few bars. …

Exciting news today as Dr. Andrea Ghez has just won the Nobel Prize in Physics for her pioneering work on black holes. As a professor of astronomy at UCLA, she has spent the last 25 years trying to understand black holes and determine if one sits at the center of our own Milky Way galaxy. A few questions emerge — if black holes are black, how can you possibly see one? If a gigantic black hole (4 million times the mass of our sun) is in our own galaxy/backyard, how could we just now…
